From the day that I heard about Reality Kitchen and all that they do 3 years ago, I knew I wanted to tell their story to the world. Knowing about their organization due to my work being a business in which they deliver breads to, I started to get to know Jim and Catherine, and their warmth and compassion that they exude was unlike any others.
When the opportunity arose for a documentary to be made, I immediately knew that their story, and the community of Reality Kitchen, needed to be shed light onto. When we started, they welcomed us into their lives with open arms and allowed my team and myself to capture just a glimpse of a place of no judgement, only acceptance, of teaching, learning, and growing. As we got to know everyone in the Reality community more and more, we felt like we were a part of it all, and it’s because of them. At Reality there are no barriers, it’s only an uphill journey. Always forward, never backward. It’s a place where people who have been stigmatized and relegated to the outskirts of society flourish.
It’s a non-profit bakery, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a community, it’s a family. It’s love and support. I would like to thank all of the members of Reality Kitchen for welcoming us and making us feel so at home. The community of Reality Kitchen, and Jim and Catherine should be so proud of what they are doing and continue to do. Each and every one of you are inspirations!
